On June 8, 2024, the Magna Meeting Room at the Ministry of Youth, Sport, Art, and Culture (MoYSAC) hosted a crucial face-to-face session led by Ms. Nazima Kassim, the SEARADO Doping Control Officer (DCO) trainer. This session marked the second half of a comprehensive Refresher Course for Timor-Leste’s four Doping Control Officers: Ms. Benvinda Alves, Ms. Milnócia Ribeiro, Mr. Domingos Gusmão, and Mr. Joao Mendonça.

The training commenced with an online session on June 1, 2024, setting the foundation for the in-person follow-up. Since their accreditation in December 2022, it has been imperative for these DCOs to undergo periodic refresher courses. The primary objective of this training was to reinforce their understanding of their responsibilities and ensure their preparedness for conducting doping control tests effectively.
During the face-to-face session, Ms. Kassim provided an in-depth review of the latest protocols and procedures in doping control. The session included practical demonstrations and interactive discussions, which allowed the DCOs to engage directly with the material and clarify any uncertainties. This hands-on approach is vital in ensuring that the DCOs are adept at the collection and processing of urine samples from athletes, whether in competition or out-of-competition settings.
As this face-to-face session concluded, it was evident that the Timor-Leste DCOs are well-equipped and highly motivated to continue their vital work. Their dedication to maintaining clean and fair sports was clearly demonstrated through their active participation and engagement throughout the training.

MoYSAC’s support for this training highlights its commitment to fostering a doping-free sports environment in Timor-Leste. By providing continuous professional development opportunities for its DCOs, the Ministry ensures that they remain at the forefront of anti-doping efforts.
The successful completion of this refresher course signifies a positive step forward in Timor-Leste’s efforts to uphold the integrity of sports. The ministry extends its gratitude to Ms. Nazima Kassim for her invaluable expertise and to the DCOs for their unwavering commitment to this crucial cause.
