On Saturday, June 1st, Ms. Nazima Kassim, the SEARADO Doping Control Officer (DCO) trainer, conducted the first half of a Refresher Course for Timor-Leste’s four Doping Control Officers. The DCOs in attendance were Ms. Benvinda Alves, Ms. Milnócia Ribeiro, Mr. Domingos Gusmão, and Mr. Joao Mendonça.

This online session serves as the initial phase, with a face-to-face session scheduled for Saturday, June 8th, 2024. Since they received their accreditation in December 2022, it is necessary for the DCOs to receive a refresher course. The purpose of this Refresher Course is to reinforce the DCOs’ understanding of their responsibilities and ensure they are fully prepared to conduct doping control testing effectively.

Doping Control Officers play a critical role in the fight against doping in sports. They are tasked with the collection and processing of urine and blood samples from athletes, both during events and in Out-of-Competition settings. These sessions are essential in maintaining the integrity and reliability of anti-doping measures, and ensuring that the officers are up-to-date with the latest protocols and procedures.

As the face-to-face session approaches, the Timor-Leste DCOs continue to demonstrate their commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and fairness in sports.
