The Ministry of Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), conducted an Anti-Doping Education Learning (ADEL) training for 49 athletes, coaches, and officials who will represent Timor-Leste at the ASEAN University Games (AUG). This international event will be held in Surabaya and Malang, Indonesia, from June 25 to July 6, 2024.

Timor-Leste’s delegation for the ASEAN University Games 2024 consists of 30 athletes across five sports: Taekwondo (6 athletes), Athletics (6 athletes), Chess (4 athletes), Futsal (14 athletes), and Beach Volleyball (4 athletes). The delegation also includes 12 coaches and officials. Members of the FDATL structure, who will accompany the delegation, participated in the training as well.

The NSC organized the two-day training session at the Timor-Leste Red Cross training room. The majority of the 49 participants successfully completed the course and obtained an ADEL certificate. The training materials focused on the International-Level Athletes Program, available in both Indonesian and English, and included 14 mandatory modules for all participants.

The primary objective of this training was to equip athletes, coaches, and officials with essential knowledge about doping, their rights, and their responsibilities while participating in international events. The NSC plans to continue facilitating similar training sessions at the national level for other athletes, coaches, and officials in the near future. The NSC compiled the list of participants in collaboration with the Timor-Leste Sports Confederation (CDTL) and the Timor-Leste National Paralympic Committee (CPNTL).

This initiative underscores the NSC’s commitment to promoting clean sports and ensuring that Timor-Leste’s athletes are well-prepared for international competitions.
